Weil mcclain HE-2 Flame prove?

I have a weil mc cain HE-2 That on a call for heat the pilot lights but the main burner does not open. My question is "What proves the flame so that main gas opens.

Proven:
If the pilot lights, the flame rod senses irt and tells the brain to go to the next step. If the flame rod is OK, and the brain doesn't sense it, the brain doesn't open the gas valve. The flame rod is the first step in the train.
The pilot is supposed to light. Is it a hot surface ignitor or a spark ignition or a standing pilot?0
