Slant Fin Steam Boiler

I found a post in another thread with an image that appears to be a slant fin intrepid steam boiler fired with a Carlin EZ Gas burner.

How did you obtain this boiler?  Did you purchase the boiler separately from the burner or did the boiler and burner come together as a unit?  Why do you use a barometric damper instead of a draft hood in this installation?  I noticed a control on the left side of the boiler attached to the

equalizer line.  What is its function and who is the manufacturer?

I am also posting this question in response to the original post.

    What is that control

It could be an auto feed with a water meter, so you know when your system is using excessive water.

The vent damper will handle the venting of a power burner better than a draft hood, such as would be used for an atmospheric burner.--NBC

    Boiler

The boiler and burner do come separately.

The automatic water feeder is a Hydrolevel VXT series. It has an LED display of the gallons on water used.

A vent draft control is necessary to adjust the amount of draft in the boiler. A draft hood has no possible adjustments.

    Part numbers?

When you say the boiler and the burner come separately, do you have any idea of the part number of the boiler (minus the oil burner)?  On the EZ Gas Burner - how long is the gun? (How far does it project into the combustion chamber?)  Do you have any part numbers for the EZ Gas Burner?  Thanks.

It all depends on the system size.

    Steam questions

I have determined that the slant fin intrepid steam boiler will be a t-20.Does anyone know the part number for this steam boiler minus the oil burner? What about the Carlin EZ gas burner part number? Is there any problem running a vent damper on this installation

The old boiler is still useable. Does anyone have a recommendation as the what to use to clean the radiators and piping out before removing the old boiler ? The old return lines are no good and will be replaced. The system has two return lines. Does anyone have experience putting Y strainers in the returns to protect the new boiler? What water treatment should be used with the new boiler?

How does the electronic hydro-level  auto feed water control work? It certainly is more attractive in price then a mc dowell miller float feed.

    Thanks for all the information!

    We installed this boiler

the use of a power gas burner in a wet-base boiler usually sold with an oil burner results in better thermal efficiency than the usual atmospheric-type gas boiler. The difference can be as much as 6-7%, which isn't chump change even with gas as cheap as it is at the moment.

Check your model number again. The TR-20 is only sold as a hot-water boiler. The smallest Intrepid steamer is the TR-30. The boiler is ordered "less burner" and the Carlin EZ-Gas (or Midco EC, which they've also approved for the Intrepids) is ordered separately.
