Trinity boiler error code

I have an NTI Trinity T200 boiler for my radiant heat. The panel is showing ER4. This seemingly happens when the boiler tries to fire, especially when I'm asking for a little heat (like 72 when the house is 69). Recently I replaced the boiler cover, gasket, and two insulation disks.

ER4 says "Unit has been running for 1 hour without reaching 80 of its set point"

80 what? Percent? Degrees? Some research on,one makes me think it may be a gas pressure issue? This thing had given me issues since I bought the house. It was installed by the previous owners son so...

Any advice is appreciated, especially if it's a free or cheap fix.

When was the last annual service and heat exchanger cleaning performed?

    Problem

Well....I bought the house and moved in 01/2010. We had the same issues with boiler that were temporarily fixed by a heating guy. I knew nothing about needing annual inspections until reading the online manual last week. I opened it up an flung the rear insulation disc completely disintegrated and the front in poor shape. I cleaned out the boiler, installed new discs and still show ER4.

My main question is what type of repair person to call. Somewhere I read that it may have to do with gas pressure.

If I crank the heat up to 80 it runs fine. If I lower it it sometimes runs. It recently ran fine through many cycles until early this morning when I found the inside temp to be 64 with it set at 69. I checked and it showed ER4

    Thanks for any help

    Lucky you...

I just went through a very similar situation. The factory ended up giving me a new burner door assembly, and my problems went away.

They will probably require you to do the same hoop jumping I did, which included offset adjustments, clocking of the meter etc. After having exhausted all resources, it finally boiled down to a bad (plugged me thinks) burner. Once replaced, everything was fine.

And yes, depending upon the severity of operation, this boiler requires service once every 2 years at a minimum, and possibly annually, depending. The longer you go between services on this type (Gianonni) boiler, the harder it is to get it to clean up.

The burner sock that comes on these small burners may be acting as an air filter, causing issues with air and gas flow. I couldn't figure out an easy way to clean this sock, because if you disturb it, and friable's go into suspension in the air, the friable are a carcinogenic.

The factory folk were very helpful.

It's not so much a case of "You got what you paid for", as it is a matter of "You DIDN'T get what you DIDN'T pay for, and you're NOT going to get what you thought you were in the way of comfort". Borrowed from Heatboy.

    ER4 Error Code Trouble shooting

    Hey everyone,

I am a NTI Technical Support Specialist. An ER4 error on the boiler states that the Sentry has sensed a lack of 24V on the outlet of the Sentry burner. 9 times out of 10 this is due to a faulty safety limit. Check to make sure the boiler is also receiving the correct water pressure needed. Trouble shooting the ER4 is very easy with a technician on site. If you or a technician would like to talk to us directly to resolve this error they can call us toll free at 1-800-688-2575 and ext 2 for technical support. You can also find all of our manuals for the boilers online at www.nythermal.com
