burnham mixing valve installation

in Oil Heating
We have an old burnham oil/wood combination boiler and want to know if the installation of the mixing valve should be 15 inches above the coil.  My husband who has worked many years for plumbing and heating companies says they always installed it a foot below the coil.  Which is correct?  Thanks for any help you can give me so we can settle this once and for all.

    what kind?

    If it is for domestic water, than yes it should always be below the outlet about 12", less if you don't have the height.
