Combination boiler with heat reservoir

Hi! My system is a combination oil wood boiler withe a primary and secondary loop and three zones. One zone serves a heat exchange loop in a small storage tank used for domestic hot water. The thermal storage tank heat exchange coils run off the primary loop. The question: I plan to establish a heat exchange coil in the thermal storage tank for domestic hot water and then eliminate the smaller storage tank and third circulator loop. In doing this can I shut off the secondary loop during the non heating seasons? This avoids heat loss into the house during those months. And eliminates the need to insulate that complex set of piping, etc.. During the heating seasons that heat loss is no issue since it warms the basement and adds to the home heating. Oh, I am in the process of insulating the primary loop with jacketed 1 1/2 " fiberglass. Looks very ... uh ... professional ... Not really. Steep learning curve. Thanks for any help with my question. Regards, and Merry Christmas, Duncan
