Sample contract

Is there a sample contract anywhere here which would be fair to both sides, but give the owner more recourse in the case of faulty installation?
Anther useful thing to have would be a check list for the owner and contractor to go through with the manual in hand. An unknowlegeble owner could the go through the list to make sure all the piping was done properly. The final item on the list would be no doubt, "cleaning the boiler".--NBC

Maybe
the contract could include the owner of the company signing the piping diagram in the manual, as acknowledgement that the boiler has been piped to manufacturers specs. That's fair for everyone involved. It will keep everyone sharp.0 -
This worked for me
This is what i sent out when i was looking for quotes on my new gas fired Smith G8 boiler this fall.
I
want the existing steam boiler and the old oil tank removed
A
gas line will be run to the boiler and a stainless steel chimney
liner installed if necessary
The
new boiler will be installed per makers suggested piping schematic
(as a minimum) in threaded steel pipe on the steam side, copper is
fine on the return side.
A
probe type LWCO will be provided along with a manual water feed
valve.
My
existing Vaporstat (set for 12oz cut out and 4oz cut in) will be
installed with my 0-3PSi auxiliary pressure gauge with the boiler
provided pressuretrol acting as a backup safety.
A
skim port should be provided for so the boiler can be skimmed and i
expect the installer to do the initial boiler skimming after the
boiler has been in use for a week or two.
I should have added two things to that list. Minimum 1-1/2" equalizer pipe and a header one size larger than the boiler risers.
Even without the last two items above the system works well, everything heats evenly and no water hammer. I made sure the installer knew what i expected and I took a look at what they were doing from time to time to be sure they weren't straying from the straight and narrow.

Timely Post
This post couldn't have been more tomely. I think it needs to have a special place at the top of the list as a reference for all howeowners and their contractors.Unfortunately, It seems most people refer to this sight after the install, but at least it could help a few and those with bad install could see possible areas of concern immediately. Good thoughts!
Let's keep working on this, and maybe the poor souls we hear from every day will have something to help them if they come here first!--NBC0
