Should I remove a radiator

I was putting in some new carpet and loosened solder on a joint on a radiator in a basement room. I drained and tried to repair (still small leak, better but will have to do again). In putting the system on to test my first attempt to solder, I noticed this radiator was hooked up to the up stairs zone. I have a second zone for the basement using baseboard heat. There is also a baseboard in this room and the thermostat for the zone 2. I'm thinking I'm better off pulling the old radiator and cap the lines. I can get to the main pipe and cap where the two line come off it right next to each other. My wife was concerned that with just the baseboard it might be colder in that room, but I think having that extra radiator working off zone 1 messes up the thermostat in the room for zone 2 making the whole basement less efficient. Just double checking I'm making the right choice and that I can just cap those two lines.

    Leaky Solder Joint

Hi- It sounds as though you have a hot water system (?) This is part of the Wall deals mostly with steam systems so you probably will get a better response over on the Main Wall as the Hot Water guys hang out over there.

Click on the "Ask Questions" button at the top of this page and select "The Main Wall" and that will put you in the right place. Unless you have a pro level torch it's hard to get enough heat to do a good soldiering job. With either capping it off or fixing the radiator joint, you may want to get a pro to do it,

    Good Luck!
