Pipe dope for weil Mclain steam boiler

A lot of steam boiler plumbers use pro dope for their threaded steam connections. According to McLain, No petroleum based sealers such as pro dope are permitted. What is the preferred non petroleum based sealer and also can any of these sealers allow you to release any pipes at a later time if needed. I saw a product called grip lite I believe which is made from the same company as pro dope which seemed like it is non petro? Thanks in advance
