FALSE WATER LINE TRAPS

Member Posts: 1
I have designed a raplacement of a steam boiler system that had false water line traps. My design called for those traps to remain. Unfortunatley the contractor removed them and put a trap on the floor near the condensate tank. I now have an issue with steam pouring out of the relief pipe. I would like to size two new traps and put them at the same elevation as the units that had been removed. the existing traps had openings for steam pipes from the header to be piped into them for back pressure. My qustion is how do I size the new traps?, what type of traps should be used. I have attached pictures of the existing traps.

Those might have been Return Traps
which act as pressure-powered pumps. This would explain the steam connections.
Get the old traps back from the contractor if you can. Then DO NOT let him touch the system again. Anyone who does what he did should not touch a steam system, ever.
You can restore the False Water Lines using water seals if needed. See pages 28-31 of "The Lost Art of Steam Heating".
And I'll bet the condensate tank and pump aren't needed either. All Steamed Up, Inc.
