STEAM VS. HOT WATER
MRK
Member Posts: 1
I currently have a coal steam system that does its job in the winter but does its job to my pocket book. Can any one tell me if I would save money converting to Hot water? Is steam that inefficient that I should try to get away from it? I need to do better with balancing my system and if it were more balanced would I cut my coal consumption? In the best case scenario is stem still worthwhile or is hot water so much more efficient?
thanks

Steam systems
Steam systems can be fairly efficient if you insulate all the nains, have proper piping, proper boiler sizing good venting etc.
To convert to water is very expensive even if the same radiators can be used and will take a long time to recover your investment.0 -

coal-fired boiler
A few questions for you:
What is the make & model of your boiler?
Can you tell what the pressuretrol is set at?
Do all of the radiators heat evenly?
Does the system make any odd noises when the heat is on? e.g. banging pipes.0
