Natural Gas vent to chimney.

Remove the exhaust vent from the chimney and a piece of the liner has broken off the bricks of chimney.

You can see and touch where if broke off.

The piece that broke off is about 12" in height.

What kind of mortar or cement can we use to repair this.

Type S, maybe Type O or is there something special for this application.

Thank you for your help.

It's a Natural Gas Boiler vent.

    Chimney

You can fix that one piece, but that's not a good sign for the rest of the chimney. Can you drop a steel liner?

    Chimney lining

Chimneys serving gas boilers must have stainless steel liner installed

    Code

Our WA state code allows flexible aluminum liners for gas venting, stainless steel for oil appliances.

    Thanks for the help...

Thank you for answering my question. The liner is about 10 or 12 inches wide, a chute that goes straight to the top of the chimney. It's an off-white color.

Probably could drop a steel liner inside (maybe flexible).

Steel liner only for gas appliance makes sense.
