Original Boiler - 1919

and still running.  A "Universal Water Heater", manufactured by the Rotary Manufacturing Company out of Los Angeles, CA.

I've never seen this manufacturer before.  This one serves a 6-unit apartment building in Oakland and we will be replacing it with a Prestige Solo 175.
8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

    Rotary doesn't appear

in Beacon or Hydronic Rating Handbook- it may have been a small company that only sold boilers in that area. Must be a heck of a burner head in there- did you check it for CO by any chance?

    Love those old boilers

Can you read the "notice to fitter" part of the mfg's plate? It's hopefully good advice.-- NBC

    Nameplate

It looks like it says "Use not less than  (Size of pipe?) Inch flow & Return"
  • I'll check

the CO and fine print when I go back.

Both the supply and return tappings are 2"; one supply and two returns.  There is a return manifold at the bottom of the boiler that looks like a twin ell.

    Nice find!

I looked in Pape-Swift, the Hydronic Rating Handbook, my files and old books and couldn't find this one. It's remarkable how long it lasted. Thanks for sharing, Alan.
