I have read through what feels like many threads and posts, without a feel good answer. Can we use this thread to get a solid yes or no for combinations of oil to gas boilers and burner combinations. We have plenty of other forums with debate etc. about these conversions...... I'm looking for a hard answer, look at it as if you were to put the system in your own home.

The main questions I would like to see fulfilled are:

Megasteam Oil Boiler converted with Carlin E-Z Gas

Does it work?

Acceptable efficiency for the conversion?

Smith G8 converted with Carlin E-Z Gas

Does it work?

Acceptable efficiency for the conversion?

Best off the self gas boiler?

    Hard Facts

Here are the hard facts, conversion guns should work with any/all boiler(s). Call the boiler manufacturer and ask, if they say they don't recommend any specific conversion gun, it's because they haven't tested it with any specific conversion gun. If this is the case, call the conversion gun manufacturer and give them the boiler information and they should give you the information for the proper conversion gun. Thoroughly clean the boiler, ensure the chimney is lined, install the proper draft regulator, and perform a combustion analysis. This you can feel good about. This is just a brief description of what needs to be done but the point is, like anything, if done properly it's both acceptable and efficient. What it really comes down to is that some contractors are comfortable doing it, others aren't.

We install the Smith new with the EZ-Gas

and get good efficiency out of it. Here are a few:

There is still a tug-of-war going with regard to running the MegaSteam with a gas burner. So we generally use the Smith, or the Slant/Fin Intrepid with the EZ-Gas. The Midco EC is also a good choice on the Intrepid, but we haven't tried it on the G8.
