Is it just me or...

Something seems wrong with this setup...I think the primary pump is the wrong direction.  Am I lacking understanding or am I right?  I am certainly no expert so any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

Interesting bent on P/S piping for sure...

Without knowing for sure what direction the pumps are moving fluid, it is hard to say.

Assumption: All circulators to the right of the A/S have integral flow checks and are pumping downward.

Their combined returns are common to the primary heat source loop. The pump to the left is pumping downward, thereby creating a situation at the upper tee of having a bull headed tee flow configuration, which is not the most ideal situation, but is still workable nonetheless.

It also violates numerous principles required of a true P/S piping configuration as it pertains to required straight lengths of pipe before and after take off branches. There could be some ghost flow considerations due to these discrepancies...

But it sure looks nice, and meets the requirement of getting 5 pounds of sugar into a 2 pound bag ;-)

    Where did you find this?

    JMHO.

    Hi all

    Hi all.

Its a prefab panel for sale from a company I found on the internet.  I have very limited space in the mechanical room so I like the fact its only 36 inches wide.  Funny that I have lots of floor space available but wall space is getting tight!

All the circulators and pumping down.  I think that causes problems on the primary circuit as it would mix secondary return water before the supply.  Curious what you guys think.

As far as the ogasmatron....Believe me that there are way cheaper ways...

    You're Right

It will create problems. Don't buy that mess. There are ways to do it correctly in tight spaces, and that's not one of them.

    Orgasmatron is still working...

I rode it today up at the Sleeper House. I met a guy there who's dad was a stunt man in the making of the film. His dad was the guy who was riding the motorcycle down the hill trying to get away from the bad guys....

Here's a picture of the one that Frank referred to. Barbarella.

    tight spaces

And smart circs seem like a natural fit.  Why bother with this sort of 1990's design nowadays?

    thanks...

Thanks for all the different opinions.  I am enjoying learning about this industry.

What would it take to make it better?  My system will consist of one zone of base boards, one fan coil and a DHW tank on priority.  Would smart circs do me any good?

Im zoning all the baseboards together since it's a small space and I want to keep it simple.  Also because its for a rental I want just one simple central thermostat.

    Cheers

    what kind of boiler?

If you pick one of the low restriction firetube HX designs, you have the potential to avoid primary/secondary pumping and run the whole house using a single smart circ. You need to size the fan coil and the baseboard for the same design temp (lower is better with a mod/con) but the savings from not buying, installing, and powering all those low efficiency circulators will be significant.
