A Venting Issue

I got a call today from someone that wanted to install a tankless heater because his water heater vent was melting...  (That's what he told me..)  He got a bid already and wanted to know if $xxxx was to much for a 4 bath home..  Apparently the installer was going to install (1) Tankless (because the guy couldn't afford (2), which he needed) and never said anything about the venting in the picture here...  Yikes!!



Some of the issues and people out there scare me...

Looks liek major problems bsides vent issues. ABS melts at 217F so much higher than PVC. There is a major problem here. We need more pics! Combustion air? Make and model of units!

I neglected to mention

That the units are piped as direct vent...  Just piped horizontal to the outside wall...



   I don't have anymore pics...  The owner sent me that one..  So that I could help him..



  He's about 60 miles north of me...

Holy Crow Crap!!!!

You can't vent those water heaters that way, no way, no how. It just can not be done like that. Not now, not in the future, not ever, like that. It must be B-vent at a minimum.

There's never enough time to do it right but always time to do it over.

Like Mike Holmes says: "Make It Right".

NOW. Before someone dies.

And if you "looked" at it and took a picture of it, you have opened yourself to liability if there is a problem.

the owner sent him that pic, so he isn't liable for anything.



As for whoever installed that mess- here we go again- you can't fix stupid!
