Best location for buffer tank taps

I am in the process of repurposing a tank for use as a buffer tank. I see that some of the manufactured buffer tanks have taps that are opposite each other like a hydraulic seperator and some have taps where the boiler supply ties in lower on the tank. Any idea of the reasons for this? I am using this with a slightly oversized modcon boiler and plan on doing homerun piping to cast iron baseboard with TRV's and an Alpha.
