Warren Webster 2 pipe vapor system boiler replacement

I have been asked to fix a 12 year old peerless sc-07 steam boiler that was oil fired now changed over to gas gun properly sized for boiler. To my understanding this would be the second boiler section repair in 12 years.

This peerless boiler is attached to a Webster vapor system with 023 boiler return trap and 123 vent trap. Both are piped text book for the original boilers water line. The system has lost approximately 40 inches of water column.

 Is a false return needed?

What has me questioning if the false return is needed, there isn't any complaints of system operation. No banging or cold radiators.

waiting to get more detail from son of 95 year old owner

I don't know at this time if it is the same section. It is the second section from rear left bottom above the push nipple.
