Patching hole in chimney

After removing a 4 or 6 inch galv flue pipe from a chimney what is the best method to patch up the hole if another appliance is not going to be connected at that point. Assume that the furnace and hot water heater will remain connected at a point lower than the removed flu pipe.

a sheetmetal plug.....
and a seal w/ some furnace cement should do the trick....0 -
