McDonnell Miller PS804 LWCO recall?

Hi all,

We recently had a failure of our LWCO to detect a low-water condition in our boiler. It's a model PS804-24, and the red low-water LED was on, but it still allowed the boiler to run. I power cycled the boiler and it then seemed to work correctly, but I figured it shouldn't be run in this condition. Now I started searching for a replacement, and I came across a post at http://cicelylee.tripod.com/heat_help_5.html that said that the PS804 of certain date codes between 1999-2000 (ours being within that range) have a defect and are being recalled.

Does anyone know anything about this? If it's true, ours was obviously never replaced. How would I go about handling this now?

Thanks,

/Patrik

    Replace it.

I don't think they're going to do anything on a 12 year old LWCO. The manual says to replace the unit every 15 years, so the most I'd expect them to do is pro-rate the last three years.

You can contact them through their web site. http://completewatersystems.com/brand/mcdonnell-miller/contact-us/

    Good replacement model?

Good point. However, I can't seem to find the PS-804 on sale now. Is the PS-802 equivalent?

What is the make and model of your boiler?

Finding the closest thing to the unit you're replacing might not be the best approach. Companies introduce new models with new features and new technologies, and sometimes these are worth looking at. You might also want to see what your boiler manufacturer is putting on the same model boilers today or talk to your local MM dealer about your options.

Hopefully some of the pros here will offer their opinions, but I'm sure they'll need to know what kind of boiler you have, whether your controls are 120v or 24v and if you have an automatic water feeder. Posting pictures is always recommended too. These guys will often spot something in a picture that guys like you and me wouldn't even think to mention.

The current LWCO is a PS-804 24V. The boiler is a Burnham model PIN4SNCP-SE2 from 2000, no water feeder. Here's a picture:
