1" main pipe but use 3/4" taco circulator

I have a one zone 2-pipe hot water heating system. The main line is 1" pipe but the plumber installed a 3/4" taco 007-fs circulator. Is this required? Why not use the 1" taco circulator?

I am adding zones.  Should I do the same use 3/4" 007 circulator or use 1" circulator?

    Circulators:

A 007 circulator is the same whether it has 3/4" flanges, bushed down to 1/2" pipe to 1 1/2" flanges. It's the same circulator.

Most installer will use flanges that are the same size as the pipe being connected to. Perhaps the installer didn't have a set of 3/4" flanges and no set of 1" flanges and it was cheaper for him to buy two, 1"x3/4" Reducing Couplings and a few nipples.

    007 circulator

Are you saying the 007-FS series circulator is always one size no matter the size of the flanges?

    Yes that is exactly what

he is saying. Same pump, just different flange sizes. There are also different sizes of pumps that use the same size of flanges. Clear as mud right?

In all sincerity, the pump needs to be sized for what the load is. The pipe should also be sized that way. The size is not an issue unless the heat load is higher than the pump can handle.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

    007 series

So that means the 007-FS can be replaced by 007-FS-IFC with no other changes.
