Tee pigtail

Is it ok to put a tee at the pigtail to add a pressure gauge new to the pressuretrol?

    Thank you

After cleaning out a completely clogged pig tail I'm questioning the accuracy of my 20 something Honeywell pressuretrol.

    The new gauge

The new gauge will tell you what the old pressuretrol is "doing".  If you use Red Brass for all the new fittings, they will get plugged less often.

    If it ain't broken...

Recently, after awaking to a very cold house I found the pigtail was completely clogged. I cleaned it out, re-installed and all was well. Then I discovered this website and learned the true purpose of a pressuretrol. (I thought it was just a safety device if the pressure gets too high) Curious, I went downstairs and waited for the pressuretrol to do it's job and it never did, the thermostat was controlling the boiler exclusively. Then I teed a 0-15 ounce pressure gauge at the pressuretrol to see what was really going on and never went above 1 ounce psi, yet all 16 rooms in this big house are nice and cozy. Normal?

    Bad news Steam fan

You are probably going to blow up the gauge if the pressure ever gets high enough to trip the pressuretrol.  0-15 ounce is too small for that type of pressure device.

Those pressuretrols trip at between 1 and 3 pounds.  Your gauge will be toast long before that.

Your 30# gauge is reading 5# or am I missing something?

    Something is amiss.
