How not to fix Steam Mains

Found this today, Steam main repair to one pipe low pressure steam main.

Definitely a first for me.

This is the project for tomorrow, repair this correctly and repair a leaking wet return.

Although it is a funny color that is duct tape, and it was holding steam.  The condensate was working its way through and leaking on the floor.  I am guessing that repair was a few years old.  Just real glad it did not decide to blow out when I was next to it.

    Steam rated Tape

Isn't the purple duct tape rated for steam?

And, which color is used for acidic condensate?

I'm gonna sell my 300 machine and just use tape from now on. Could probably just connect a bunch of paper towel tubes together with the tape and pipe up a storm. And it would cost nothing hardly, and my customers would be happy (maybe) with the price.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

That you're supposed to use chewing gum for that and not duct tape!  Kids these days...
