Don't always need to go the mod/con route

You don't always have to install a mod/con. This a large three storey house that had a 240,000 BTU boiler.. They did not consume really that much. We installed a Raypak 180,000 BTU boiler in P/S, a new liner and a combustion air intake as required by the local A.H.J. 30% in gas savings!

    very nice.

    What did you do for DHW?

    DHW

    We kept the same tank. The tank vent is connected just before the vent goes into the chimney. It is behind the boiler vent.

    is that...

    a dryer vent lint cathcher can in the corner? The white thing w/ holes in it?
  • Always liked the Raypaks...

    more than any other copper tube boiler.  They knew what the limits were of the design and adjusted thier installation recommendations accordingly. No outrageous claims of low return temps allowed, etc.   I've seen many not touched for years and still run flawlessly.  What was really neat was the modulating atmospheric models.  They had about 10 to 1 modulation with relatively little loss in combustion efficiency.   I wish they still made these, since they gave you a very big boost in seasonal efficiency, without all the complexities of today's modcons.

    There was an error rendering this rich post.

    ++ to the Raypaks

    I agree, the raypaks are well built, all the larger units come with 2 honeywell limits, manual reset high limit, flow switches and Good refractory.

    No, I am not a Raypak rep, but spend little time working on them

    Lint filter

    There is a laundry room behind the wall. The dryer exhaust goes into the lint filter and then exits outside. We do have combustion air (7 inch Dia) as per A.H.J.

    I have been installing these Raypack since they came out some 15 years ago. The larger models are two stage. In all this time, we had two callbacks: one bad gas valve and one Taco pump that made noise which was this install! We always install them P/S! Over 180,000, I use the RBI units where mod/con does not make sense or emergency replacement.
