Steam Boiler Controls - not sure what they do

here are the various pressure/burner controls on top of a 14 section steam boiler

the one on the right cuts off the boiler when boiler pressure gets too high

the other two on the left are confusing to me

why are both controls needed? and what does each one do (ie. burner level, cutin, cutoff)

do they look like they are piped correctly (ie. dont see a siphon connection)

thanks

    controls

Need more pictures..... Those are all pressuretrols... if you can provide the model numbers that may help in discovering the functions...

    Impossible to tell

But, Here is a likely explanation for what they are.  You will have to verify yourself.

You have indicated that the one on the right is the operating pressuretrol.  The gray device located just to the left of it is probably a high limit pressuretrol.  The purpose is to provie a back up in case the main pressuretrol fails.  May places require that the secondary is a manual reset, but many places to not.  If it is the secondary device, it will have a slightly higher setting.  The device to the far left is a modulating pressuretrol.  Its purpose is to control a modulating burner.

    No Pigtail, but.....

The piping is arranged so that steam cannot get to these devices.  The low piping that the devices are connected to will fill with water.  That is what you want.

    "Missing" pigtail

Yep.  That's the arrangement that Weil-McClain recommends for the LGBs, instead of a pigtail.
