How do you find out what size vent is needed on steam radiators? Thanks Tom

radiator vent selection
i like to start with the slowest, and most reliable vents: the hoffman 40, as they only vent the radiators themselves. the real work of removing air from the system is done by the main vents, and gorton 1's and 2's are the favorites here.
if your present radiator vents are working, then i would leave them in place, and concentrate on getting the main venting up to snuff.--nbc0 -
Another way
is to figure out how much air is inside the radiator, then select the vent based upon how much air is in there.
How to do that and more is explained http://www.heatinghelp.com/products/Steam-Heating-Books/25/146/Balancing-Steam-Systems-Using-a-Vent-Capacity-Chart-by-Gerry-Gill-and-Steve-Pajek in this handbook.0
