Gas Conversion Burner

Hi Wallies,

Not familiar with power burners to convert an oil fired boiler to gas. Anyone have any suggestions for brand names? Boiler is a Weil McLain PWG04 Series # with a 1.2gph nozzle, 126000btu in. I thought this might be a better idea than replacing the boiler as I'd assume it would be cheaper. Customer wants to sell the property and wants to spend as little as possible.

Thanks in advance, Adam

    That small of boiler

    Replace the boiler.

Most gas power burners are going to cost the same if not more than a new boiler.

Also new boiler will be more efficient, if you want it to be.

I converted my own system with a Wayne Conversion Burner. Have it fired at 40MBTUH (slightly derated). Tuned up, it's running over 80% efficient. It cost a couple hundred at the time. I think it's a great option for a lower cost job. Just make sure you follow all of the directions...even the "suggested" ones!

We've done a bunch of these

on that boiler I'd use the Carlin EZ-Gas burner with the 9-slot diffuser head. Very nice burner, and it should run more efficiently than the usual atmospheric gas boiler. Also, you don't have the additional materials and labor that would be involved when replacing the entire boiler.

You will also need to change the barometric draft regulator to a double-swing type (Field MG1 series, or similar) and add a blocked-flue safety switch to the barometric. Both of these changes are Code requirements.

Be sure to clean the fire-side of the boiler well, and set up the burner with a digital analyzer.
