replace portion of condensate line from 2"steel to pvc?

can i use pvc to replace a 4ft part of the 2" condensate return line?

right now i have steel/copper on return line

    No, you cannot use non metalic pipe on a steam system.

    System = Early Dunham 2-pipe Vacuo-Vapor (inlet and outlet both at bottom of radiators) Traps are Dunham #2 rebuilt w. Barnes-Jones Cage Units, Dunham-Bush 1E, Mepco 1E, and Armstrong TS-2. All valves haveTunstall orifices sized at 8 oz.
    Current connected load EDR= 1,259 sq ft, Original system EDR = 2,100 sq ft Vaporstat, 13 oz cutout, 4 oz cutin - Temp. control Tekmar 279.

    thanks will use copper

    can i reduce the original steel 2"portion  to 1" or 1.5" for 4ft then back to exisiting copper 2" on other side(previous section replacement)

    trying to  go thru old 2" pipe in concrete step with 1" or 1.5" copper pipe so i dont have to rip up concrete step/s

    depends

    Depends on how much condensate flow you have coming thru that line.  1.5" copper "may" work. If it was my job, I would not go down below that.
