CALEFFI

Does anyone have experience with Caleffi? Their hydronic components really look nice and I have tried to use the stuff on two jobs. It was obscenely expensive, even compared to Uponor. Since Italy is going bankrupt, I would have thought their stuff would be reasonably priced.

Since Italy is going bankrupt, ...

Italy is not the only country that is going bankrupt. The U.S. dollar has been dropping ever since about 1970. Compared with gold and the Swiss Franc, it has dropped over 90%. The only reason this has not hurt our trade with Italy is that their inflation has been even worse.

When I started driving (1961), gasoline was about $0.20 per gallon. When I bought this house (1976), #2 heating oil was $0.40 per gallon. The value of the dollar has been steadily dropping, and in recent years, even faster than the Lira and the Euro. If, instead of comparing the value of the dollar with gold or Swiss Francs, you compare it with the dollar cost of a Caleffi anti-backflow valve, or hydraulic separator, I venture to say it would show you the same thing.

    Top notch stuff.

I have visited their factory and they make top notch stuff. Price is relative. Primarily the reason that we don't discuss it here.

A lot of other manufacturer's brands are made in Caleffi's foundry and rebranded.

    Pricing resolved

I called their main corporate number and explained my findings. The regional rep then got to my supplier and made sure they gave me good numbers. It turns out the vendors were giving me bad info because they are not familiar with the product line. It appears their pricing is comparable to Uponor. I have ordered a couple pieces to check it out.

I wish there was a universal rule that no one at a supply house can answer the phone unless they know something about what they sell.

Glad you got your discounts worked out. I've used their products for years and they make very high quality hydronic and solar goodies.
