Burnham KV 85

2002 model with a hole above the water line. The returns are not leaking, what else could have caused this

    Bad vents?

    That's the first thing to look for. Also leaky valve packings.



    Your boiler may still have some warranty left. Call Burnham with the model and serial numbers. They will probably suggest you go with a MegaSteam boiler, which is a much better unit that even has an anti-corrosion warranty- the only one in the business.

    Can I use the same burner. Do they make a gas burner in case the HO wanted to convert down the line.

    Burner is different

    for the V8 and MegaSteam.



    If they want to go gas, Burnham won't support a gas gun in a MegaSteam. In that case I'd go with a Smith 8 or Slant/Fin Intrepid- with gas gun this setup will give better thermal efficiency than an atmospheric gas boiler.

    Update

    Burn ham are replacing the block with a mega steam at a fraction of the cost of a new one

    Even though the existing is 11 years old.

    Great company, this is the real test, after sales service.

    11 YEARS after.

    And we are not the original installers.

    Excellent!

    Now find the leaks that made the V85 rot out. Bad vents, leaky valve packings, underground return lines.................
