I have a one pipe steam system in a 15 story residential building. On the duplexes in the 9th and 10th floor it is hotter than in the rest of the line. I can feel it when I am close to the riser. Above and below is fine, seems odd to me that abundance is in the middle. Anything to do with expansion joints?

Insulation?
Is it possible that somehow the insulation has been removed from the riser(s) on the offending floors, possibly due to renovations or repairs?0
