Valve Replacement

Was asked to do a valve replacement for a 1935 built apartment building, 6 floors and a celler.  Appears to be a 2-pipe steam system.  However, there are no traps at the radiators or convectors.  Only one (1) trap in building.  Valves at top of radiators and elbows at other side bottom for return.  People cold people hot, want more control.  Could this be a Richardson systrem?  Can I put in Danfoss valves?

  • 2-pipe no traps

if there are no traps, then the existing valves may be orifice valves, adjusted to let in only the amount of steam which will condense. why does the customer want to replace them?

give us some more information, including pictures of the boiler piping, and we can help you warm these people up!--nbc

    Here are photos

See photos of a cast iron radiator and a cast iron convector.  The building teneants are complaining about hot spots and cold spots and wants to be able to close off the valves at radiators if they choose.  When they do that now, it still gets hot at some heating elements.

Must the valves be replaced with oriface valves?  How are the oriface valves set?
