Finishing someone elses project - piping advice needed

Someone started installing a auxiliary heating system in a little office. The system burns waste oil to provide heat. Hot water coils are installed in the heat pumps' attic AHUs. Piping is installed from the boiler to the attic. The graphic is my guess at finishing off the piping. What do you think? Is the basic concept correct?

    Looks good to me...

Does it comply to the boiler manufacturers recommendations?

You will need 1/2 PSI per vertical foot of system elevation plus 5 PSI in static fill pressure.

How do you intend to fill and purge the system?

    Mark Eatherton,

Thanks for taking the time and effort to look at this and comment.

You asked: "Does it comply to the boiler manufacturers recommendations?"

I will have to look into that.

"You will need 1/2 PSI per vertical foot of system elevation plus 5 PSI in static fill pressure."

While 22.5psi is not much, we may have to use a pump to achieve it as the building has very little water pressure.

"How do you intend to fill and purge the system?"

There is a "boiler drain" valve on the boiler now. It was not put on the schematic drawing. We will use a pump to put antifreeze (because the attic is unheated) and water treatment chemicals into the system. (What is recommended for the copper and iron pipes?)

There  is a Manual Vent valve shown on the schematic in the attic. Since it is an attic, it seemed like a good idea to use a manual valve.

This system is now under contract to a consultant

    FYI He says:

1 the use of antifreeze is not recommended as it can effect the heat transfer

2 the air vent goes on the boiler side of the pump not on the top of the system

3 the piping design will not work well at all

Bummer, but better to find out before spending more money...doing it wrong.

Would have to defer to the eyes on expert..

We can only hope he knows what he's doing....

    Good luck with your project.

    "HE" IS ONE OF "YE"

You know and love him well. He will do fine I'm sure. Perhaps he will brag one day about pulling this one off.

    Thanks for your good wishes!

I'm sure you're in good hands...

If he hangs here, he knows what he's doing, and if he comes across a puzzler, he knows where to come to get answers.
