smelly radiator question

Hello guys, I desperately need help about our current radiator because we are forced not to use it.

The radiator gives off an unpleasant and suffocating smell every time it is on. It smells like a burnt plastic. I think it's the silvery metal paint that's causing it.

I want to know how we can get rid of the smell or the paint because it is really freezing inside our home. We really need to have a way to use our radiator as soon as possible. Thank you very much,,

[this is not from our home..but our radiator looks exactly like this.]

    Is it just that....

1 radiator? W/o getting into a whole lot can you look around and see if something is between the sections? If its clean see if you can wipe it down w/ a say rubbing alcohol to clean off residue. If that does not work you may have to crack a window and let the paint cure...

    Smelly Radiator

Did someone just paint the radiator? If so, did they use high temperature paint designed for being applied to hot surfaces? Is the radiator a steam radiator? If it's not high temperature paint, it may smell and not stick well.

Like someone else just said, open the windows in the room and crank the heat up. The smell will go away in a while. I've never seen a radiator that smelled for more than a few days after being painted. Was it painted with latex/water based paint or alkyd/oil based paint?

The radiator was painted before we rented the house (so like 2 months from now). I don't know about the paint being designed for high temp and I think it is oil based because it's silvery. The smelly radiators we have are steam type.

I will definitely do your tip. Thanks.
