Hydronic circulator pump operation

I have a vintage Thrush circulator pump [Type KS or 2ks5770jc] on a single zone hydronic heating system. It runs fine, that is quietly, but it doesn't come on when I call for heat. If I move the temperature dial down on the Honeywell aquastat that's dedicated to the pump to around 120 degrees, it will go on. AND stay on, and reach an operating temperature of almost 150 degrees. Isn't there supposed to be a wiring connection between my thermostat control and the pump?
And isn't there supposed to be a high-temp cutout for the pump which turns it off?
I have a three story house to heat with 17 radiators and I would love to speed the process of getting the hot water up top if I could.
Thanks a lot for any help
