Installing Vaporstat and New Press Gauge
MarkB
Member Posts: 4
Hi,
I've read all the posts about vaporstats and proper thermostats for steam heating and I've decided to upgrade.
I'm getting ready to buy a vaporstat, new thermostat (Vision Pro) and a low pressure gauge.
When I install the vaporstat and the press gauge, do I need to fill the steam trap/siphon loop with water? I was told to do that by the press gauge vendor but haven't seen any information about this in any installation instructions.
Thanks for the help,
Mark

Water in the Pigtail
Hi- Attach the pigtail to the boiler so that the pigtail loop is at 90 degrees to the face of the boiler. Pour a little water into the pigtail which will fill the loop in the pigtail and extra will just drain into the boiler. Then attach the gauges and Vaporstat. The water in the loop protects the gauges and vaporstat from live (full temperature) steam which might harm them.
