    I wonder

if that Mohawk burner is a re-branded Sunray? The housing design makes me wonder.... if possible, take a pic of the end of the air tube (part that sticks into the boiler) and post it.

If it is a Sunray, please don't throw it out!

    A header for christmas

Looks like you will finally have a proper header on that system!

The old boilers were so large that the steam chest was enormous, and protected the knucklehead from his own mistakes!

Did you do a radiation survey to determine the appropriate size of the replacement?

Don't forget that a vaporstat, and good low-pressure gauge+generous main venting will let you begin saving money right away instead of waiting until next year!

A metered water feed will alert you to damaging excess make-water.--nbc

    Sunray

    Hey SteamHead,

I'll do it tonight. What is the significance if it is a Sunray? Historical value?

    They were great burners

whose company was mismanaged out of existence. We still see a lot of them in the Baltimore area and I like to keep as many parts for them as I can. With proper setup they run quite efficiently.

    Ah

I was under the assumption that the older huge boilers with steam chests didn't need a header?

My neighbors 60+ year old boiler is pipped in just like that, no header.  It also has an odd thing with two weights, maybe some sort of pressure relief?

Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

    That was

a regulating device, that controlled the draft dampers when it was coal-fired.
