Weil Mclain Venting Materials

Hello.
I picked up a used Weil Mclain GV4 boiler to run in my garage to heat my infloor system.
The guy I bought it from(which is a heating contractor) told me I have to use Stainless Steel pipe for venting. After reading through the installation manuals and such it listed a couple venting options, and PVC ends up being one.
Can I use PVC with this furnace?
I have installed a couple forced air units that could be venting with PVC and I guess I don't understand why this particular closed combustion system with direct venting would care if you used PVC or Stainless Steel.
Any insight would be great!
