Do I need to cap my chimmney?

Good morning everyone,

Recently replaced my oil furnaces with 2 electric boilers for my hot water heating system. As the new furnaces don't need to exhaust, my chimney isn't really needed any more. The service/installers did cap the open part in the basement with metal sheeting, but should I be capping the roof part? Im worried that snow/rain could accumulate in there and cause some sort of damage.

See photos below, my chimney is on the left, and sorry for the crappy photo, I took a photo from my home inspection pictures....

Capped basement part...

My roof top chimney, one on the left (bricks have since been cleaned up)

Thanks!!

Thanks

    cap it.......

I'd have a mason get up there, cement it shut, then cap it to be water tight.  As far as the basement goes, maybe you could paint that sheet metal the same color as the cement :P, or hang a pic over it...

There was an error rendering this rich post.

    I would say

you have more of an issue with flashing, and drainage issues below ground by your foundation. The cap will only stop water from coming out of the clean out door. From the pics, it is showing up everywhere else

    thanks

is that because of the white stuff? Can that be treated with a sealer of some sort? Never had any water issues in the basement. Dry as a bone!

    would gluing a paver stone...

Do you think I could cap it by gluing a paver stone on top, and seal it with a bead of silicone?

    bien sure...

I got the Hydra 20kw, one for each appt. Nice and tidy, but its kinda loud, not really the unit, but from the pipes. Sounds like a loud car from far away, that muffler sound. Never did that with the old unit. Does it have to do with the circulator pumps? (Grundfoss UPS 1558FC). The installer's sending a tech on Monday. And is gluing a paver brick a solution for the chimney?
