boiler age and a few others

have a peerless gas fired g-561sp.  would like to see the near boiler piping sketches. age of boiler. water volume of boiler.  bought this house 2 yrs ago. at that time i knew nothing about steam heat. installed a pellet stove, used that except when it got to single digits outside. like the steam heat, but seems very costly to run part time. started doing some research this year.  i believe the near piping is incorrect. i have 2 risers that come up about 3-4" above the boiler, then a 90 towards each other to a tee that goes straight up about 3 ft. to another 90 that runs about 3 ft. into the main. violating the 24" from waterline rule i find most everywhere. also ran a cleaner thru it a couple times, drained out about 8-9 gal. of water. thought it should be more.  2 yrs ago had the plumber change to pilotless ignition. cleaned the system  and drained the wet returns at that time. they seemed pretty clean. no hammer, just takes forever to get heat out.  replaced all radiator vents also, added larger vents to the end of the 2 mains. i think the system is sending out wet steam due to the near boiler piping being incorrect. have checked my radiator sq. ft. and get 325 sq. ft.,  13 radiators boiler says 405 sq.ft. the hartford loop is not connected to the main for pressure.  the system will not satisfy pressurtrol ever and will constantly run until the stat is happy.  help!!!

    boilers are economical and wonderful

when installed correctly. it sounds like you are right about nr boiler piping. the best thing you can do is google installation and operation instructions for you boiler and have it repiped-preferably by a knowledgable contactor. when correctly installed, it shouldnt take but 20 minutes to heat the radiators.
