Steam Rad Question

I am sizing a steam boiler for a friend and ran into some rads i have not encountered before, They are made by Weil McClain,  both have cast iron face grills,  but are just covers for horizontal cast iron elements.  The first is 8020X4.5 in deep and has 1 single cast iron element.  The second measures 46X20X9 in deep and has 3 bundled cast iron elements.  Any thoughts on Sq Ft of steam?

    Steam Rad question

Here is a picture of one of the radiators.  inside it it more a wall type convector.  The eighty in rad has one single cast iron element.  the 46 in has 3 elements all tied together by a single header

    Weil McLain Raydiant Concealed Radiators

Perhaps Weil-Mclain Raydiant Concealed Radiators made in the late 1940's.  If not, they were knock-offs of them by another manufacturer.  Could be Solray, and their ratings would be quite similar.  Terrific castings!

The ratings, according to Weil's 1949 catalogue:

Single Vectant - for 4-1/8" recess:

       No. 800 - 80" x 20-1/2"  = 50 sq.ft. EDR.

    Double vectant- for 7-3/4" recess:

      No. 405 - 46-3/4" x 20-1/2" = 39 sq. ft. EDR.

The radiators are cast hollow.  The front grills carry steam or hot water.  behind them, secured between push nipples is a cast iron "finned vectant," as the main source of convection heat.  They were also offered in a cabinet style with cast iron sides and steel top.

Absolutely the height of steam heating technology.

    It's a Solray

also made by Weil-McLain. The front panel has a slightly different design from the Raydiant, but the construction is similar.

The Solray doesn't appear in "E.D.R." but you can find it in Tom Byrley's "Hydronic Rating Handbook". I don't have my copy handy but if someone else does, it's under "Cast-Iron and Specialty Radiation". Or, call Weil-McLain on Monday.
