Best access for skimming

Need to skim off the oil from the top of the water in my Weil-McLain 88 series 2 boiler. I understand the process but am not sure where I should skim from. The only two points I see I can add a nipple to is the piping used for the pressure controls or from the top piping of the water level control. I know there is a designated skimming access point for this boiler, but it is plugged and located behind the installed exterior panels. Am I one the right track or is there another access point? Thanks.

Sound like you are on the right track
I have a Burnham IN5 and I removed the pressure relief vave and replaced it with a nipple and a downward pointing elbow to drip into a bucket. Hope this helps.0 -
Skim Port
Hi- On the Weil McLain 88 Series 2 there are two places you can skim from. If you don't already have one here is a link to the I&O manual.

Look on Page 11, Figure #10 - Port "A" seems to be designated as the skim port though it would seem that Port "B" could also be used as it is also 2 inch. I gather that your safety valve is attached to one of these so the easiest thing to do would be to remove the safety valve and skim through the open port. Be sure to reinstall the safety valve properly before making steam.
If you decide to open the plugged port and have a skim valve attached, I would get a pro to do it for you as getting out pipe plugs that have been in there for a while isn't as easy as it looks and best left to someone who has experience with this.
Also attached is a article on skimming that might be of help to you.

Since the skim port is not accessible, I will try from the pressure release. Thanks for you help.0
