Vitocell 300 connection question

Can someone tell me how to remove the protective covers from a Vitocell 300 indirect tank. I tried pulling the plastic covering off by hand, and also tried twisting it, and it won't budge. There's a ring along the backside with what looks like allen screws but it doesn't look like that's removeable either. Am I missing something? Do I need to twist them off with pliers, or do I simply break or cut them off at the point where they meet the circular flange on the tank?? Thanks,

Razor Knife
Take a razor knife and carefully cut the 4 plastic legs where it meets the circular flange. Or slice the X in the middle of the nipple then peel the 4 legs back and then cut them at the flange.0 -
Thank you.....
