Type 2 vs Type 3 sensors

Can anybody explain to me the difference between these 2 types of sensors? I am familiar with the type 2 as we do a lot with Tekmar and that is what they use. Now I am looking at some Taco IWorks controls and they specify a type 3. Without getting into too technical a verbiage so I can understand what you are telling me, what is the difference and why would you use one over or in place of the other? Thanks, Gary
