Can I Use Copper Pipe in a Steam System for Return?

Just wondering if I can change a old rusty looking 1 1/4" steel wet return pipe to copper. The walls in the basement are going to be framed and finished and I know how to work with the copper a little easier. I could even braze the joints if I had to. Thanks ps I am ordering the Got Steam Heat book today.

Copper Piping
The majority of thought seems to be use black pipe threaded pipe on the steam bearing lines and copper is okay on non steam bearing lines like the wet returns though there are some pros who use only black pipe. I have copper on my wet returns and it seems to keep much cleaner than black pipe. It's been in place for 30+ years with no problems. I would be cautious about burying it or have it laying directly on the floor. In old basements (especially unfinished ones) there is usually old coal ash in the soil which when it gets damp can be very corrosive to copper.
