Which brand is best?  What size would be suitable for a family of 5?

    need more info.

    Tankless? Tank direct fired?  What is your heating system?.. can you run an indirect water heater of it?

    What are your needs? Whirlpools or big showers? are your kids Teenagers? # of baths? Bradford White is my tank type preference but State is fine too. I  like Noritz for tankless....
