Below you will see the Weil Mclain oil fired boiler which keep s me up many of nights.Last year I had it down fired and added new controls which saved me 15% of my oil ussage. FANTASTIC
It is run in the summer for domestic hot water but about a month ago it went into "lockout" and refused to recycle. After inspection it was found that the eye which sees fire was blacken with soot/oil. It was cleaned , but last night it went into locklout again.
What should I be looking at ?
This is a symptom for what bigger problem ?
Why all the soot and unburned oil ???
Any thoughts ?
Regards
Nick

It shouldn't do that
you may have a draft problem, lack of combustion air, wrong nozzle, wrong head setting, etc. Get a real pro in there. All Steamed Up, Inc.

Sooty burn
So this started after you had the boiler downfired? I'm going to guess that the burner wasn't properly adjusted after the nozzle was swapped out. There is also the possibility that the nozzle is not the proper angle.0 -

You need to get someone in there do do a proper cleaning, and combustion test. After that is done, your problem should be solved.0
