balance valves

In my series loop baseboard system (2 loops), are manual balance valves a good idea ? Where should they be located ? The original positions were right at the discharge of each pump.

Balancing Valves
One of your loops may have been a lot longer than the other and the shorter loop got all the flow. The shorter loop valve can be tuned down to encourage flow to the longer, more restrictive loop.
Not a bad idea to cover your bases when installing the system, but normally I don't see them.8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Balancing Valves
It is not necessary if you have each loop on its own zone. If it a split loop, it may be a good idea as Alan said.0 -

Will ball valves be ok to control flow .0 -
You should use
a globe valve (needle valve) for balancing. Not a gate valve, and not a ball valve. Ball valves should be for shut-off only. Look inside one and see how far you have to turn (almost all the way) to get a reduction. There was an error rendering this rich post.
