I presently have a coal converted, oil fired, steam boiler...which also heats domestic hot water. I surveyed the radiators and came up with 955sq ft The structure is wood framed, three stories AND poorly insulated in Mt Vernon NY. Can someone give me an idea of size boiler I need.

Sq Ft EDR
I come up with 229,000BTU for that. If you add a 15% piping loss, it is 270,000. In this case though, it looks like you are relly well insulated, so you may not need to add that. Get youself a good steam guy in there to do that job, because a big part of replacing an old system like this is generally found outside the boiler room

Recomendation ?
Can you give me an idea on a make and model you think is the best buy for the money ?
And as for the local Steam guys -- there are no local guys, its is a black art to them, almost like alchemy. I have been frsutrated by a long line of professionals. Last year Heating Help located one for me but even he is 20 miles away.

Steam Boiler
Where could you possibly be where there are no steam guys? As far as a boiler, I would look at a Weil-Mclain or HB Smith. They make awesome products.0
