My house heats up when I run the hot water. our heating co came in and replaced the aquastat and set the temp to 130 but the system still makes steam. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Aquastat
The aquastat should have two settings. The set temperature and a differential. The differential on some is not adjustable.
For example mine is set to 190F with a 10 degree differential. The burner turns on at 180F and it never makes steam because the burner shuts off when the boiler hits 190F.
Can you post a picture of what was replaced? 130F sounds more like a mixing valve than an aquastat setting.Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

aquastat
I can post a pic later, but I know it is the aquastat that was replaced. The tech showed me the part he replaced etc. The mixing valve is a round dial, this is enclosed is a metal case and you can adjust it with a screwdriver. it comes out of the left side of the boiler.0 -
water temperature
If that is the case the only thing I can think of is for some reason the aquastat doesn't know what the temperature of the water in the boiler is. Installed in wrong location, water level too low?
Perhaps one of the pros on here can help out.Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Maybe
they didn't use heat-transfer grease on the aquastat bulb when they slid it into the well? I've seen this cause a 20° error.........All Steamed Up, Inc.

possibly
But even if that is the case the high temp would be 150/160. What should the aquastat be set to as a rule?0 -
175-190F
I've had mine as low as 175F with a 15F differential and it was barely tolerable. If oil prices go up I might have to deal with it that low.
I beleive it depends on the exact setup you have. I run mine 190F with 10 deg differential as per my boilers manual and have plenty of hot water.Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

too hot
interesting, something is not right with my system then, even set at 130 the water gets too hot, I had turned it down to 120 but it took too long for it to warm up for that first shower in the morning.0
