In the fridge

While it may not be a heating thing, the tubing part seems to fall into the realm of things here.
I was just talking with some guys about the putrid water that ends up in your drink when the ice from an icemaker thaws. Whereas, in trays it dosen't seem so bad, even after being there for a while.
The coil of plastic sits in the fridge before it hits the freezer. Could odors from the fridge permeate the tube and foul the water?
The subject came up during a chat about Oxygen barrier in PEX.
I know , it's of vital importance.
